Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s Freelander 8 large five-seater SUV set for October 31 delivery in China

Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s Freelander 8 large five-seater SUV set for October 31 delivery in China

Chery Jaguar Land Rover has officially announced that the large five-seater version of its mid-to-large SUV, the Freelander 8, is scheduled to begin customer deliveries on October 31. Its six-seat version began shipping on 19 September. The vehicle, which launched on September 3, offers three five-seater configurations with a price range of 309,900–389,900 yuan (46,300–58,200 USD).

Design and dimensions

The Freelander 8 features a closed-grille design with active vents and an illuminated “FREELANDER” logo. It retains Freelander’s styling cues, including signature ISD interlocking headlights. The rear is characterised by a vertical tailgate layout, a blacked-out D-pillar, a large spoiler, and a rounded bumper. The vehicle supports an optional towing package with a maximum trailer mass of 2,000 kg.

The SUV measures 5,118 mm (5,185 mm for the top-trim) in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,898 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm.

Intelligent driving and interior

The vehicle is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip with a total computing power of 320 TOPS. Two intelligent driving packages are available: the ADS 5 Pro, utilising a Limera laser-vision perception system, and the ADS 5 Max, which features an 896-line LiDAR and 30 high-performance sensors to support full-scenario “parking-to-parking” autonomous driving.

Inside, the cabin features a wrap-around layout equipped with a 46.3-inch 8K panoramic display and a 15.6-inch Mini LED centre touchscreen. The steering wheel has been optimised with a square shape to prevent screen obstruction. Notable interior details include 144-facet K9 crystal knobs, physical buttons with “Paris stud” textures, 256-colour ambient lighting, dual 50W wireless charging pads, and an onboard fragrance system.

Performance and off-road capability

The Freelander 8 utilises a 1.5T range extender (115 kW). Its dual-motor four-wheel-drive system delivers a total output of 610 kW (818 hp), enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 4.6 seconds. The rear motor produces 250 kW (335 hp) and features a two-speed transmission, allowing for switching between 4L/4H off-road modes at speeds under 20 km/h.

Equipped with a 60.33 kWh ternary battery pack from CATL, the vehicle offers a CLTC pure electric range of 310 km (~251 km WLTP), it supports 6C ultra-fast charging.

For off-road enthusiasts, the SUV features the i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, which can switch between mud, rock, and sand modes in 0.2 seconds. Using LiDAR to scan road conditions, the system automatically adjusts chassis height and power output. The vehicle is built with a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension, standard closed dual-chamber air suspension, and a rear-wheel steering system (±10°). It also boasts a “three-lock” system – front mechanical lock, rear e-LSD, and a digital virtual centre differential – providing a maximum ground clearance of 270 mm and a wading depth of 900 mm.
