Exportable and Non-Exportable Titles for US Cars
Every vehicle sold at American auctions has its own unique document containing the most important information about the car — the title. In Belarus and Kazakhstan, the equivalent of a title is the vehicle registration certificate; in Russia — PTS (Vehicle Passport).
Some titles impose certain restrictions for the USA, while others affect the countries to which purchased vehicles are exported. For example, vehicles with a Non-repairable title cannot be driven in the USA, but upon arrival in the Republic of Belarus, such a car can be easily cleared through customs and registered.
Meanwhile, vehicles with a Bill Of Sale cannot be exported without obtaining additional documentation. That is why when searching for a car for you, our specialists first pay attention to the title.
How long does it take to get a new title?
Depending on the document type and the state where the car was purchased, the time required to issue a new title can vary from 1 week to 2 months, with an average of 2 weeks.
Payment for the new title is made together with the vehicle delivery payment. If a car was accidentally purchased with a non-exportable title, it can either be sent for "parting out" and shipped as parts, or re-listed for sale through an auction.
If a vehicle was purchased with a document that needs to be converted, don't worry: in 99% of cases, we obtain a new title from the DMV of the corresponding state within a certain period. Only in exceptional cases do we need to apply for a title in a different state if the first application was rejected.
