BYD’s new Denza N8 EV pre-orders open in China: 1,003 km CLTC range, 1,193 hp and Flash Charging

BYD‘s Denza has officially opened pre-orders for the N8 EV. First revealed in regulatory filings in August, the model is set to officially launch in November. No official pre-sale price has been disclosed yet. By comparison, the Denza N8L, which has the same-sized battery and is 50 mm longer than the Denza N8, starts at 299,800 yuan (44,100 USD).

Design and dimensions

The Denza N8’s front fascia is defined by split headlights, consisting of dual-strip LED daytime running lights above and vertical high/low beam units below. The lower bumper incorporates an active air intake design, and the vehicle also features a front trunk (frunk).

The N8 measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm. Compared to the N8L, the body length has been reduced by 50 mm, and the vehicle is available with 20-inch or 21-inch wheels. Also, the N8 is a five-seater, distinguishing it from the six-seater N8L, and offers a standard trunk capacity of 1,046 liters.

Customers can choose from four exterior colours – Tianji Green, Night Black, Flowing Silver, and Shuyun Grey – as well as four two-tone options: Deep Space Blue, Aurora Green, Daylight Orange, and Star Twilight Grey.

Interior

The interior is highlighted by a 30-inch panoramic screen and a 1.1-meter-wide integrated “Sky Screen.” The cabin is finished with extensive leather upholstery and wood grain accents. Four interior colour schemes are available: Moonlit Mountain (Light Beige/Dark Blue), Morning Mist Beige, Dawn Red, and Evening Brown.

The N8 features dual 50W wireless fast chargers in the front, wraparound ambient lighting, a Devialet sound system, rear entertainment screens, and an onboard refrigerator.

The N8 offers four “zero-gravity” seats (two in the front, two in the rear). The front seats offer a maximum recline angle of 165°, while the rear seats recline up to 146° and feature 130 mm of longitudinal adjustment. All these seats include ventilation, heating, and massage functions, with adjustment controls integrated into the door panels.

Performance and technology

The N8 features the “Yi San Fang” (e3) technology, DiSus-A intelligent air suspension, and rear-wheel steering. It also comes equipped with the “God’s Eye” 5.0 advanced driver assistance system.

• Powertrain: The pure electric version offers single-motor RWD and tri-motor AWD configurations. The single-motor variant comes in two power outputs: 320 kW (429 hp) and 370 kW (496 hp). The tri-motor version utilises a front-one, rear-two motor layout, with a front motor of 270 kW (362 hp) and two rear motors of 310 kW (416 hp) each, delivering a combined system output of 890 kW (1,193 hp). This configuration enables advanced manoeuvres like “compass turns” and intelligent crawling.

• Battery and range: The vehicle is equipped with second-generation Blade Battery technology and flash-charging capabilities. According to previous filing information, the N8 will offer battery packs of 130.15 kWh and 105.79 kWh, providing pure electric CLTC ranges of 1,003 km (~812 km WLTP), 970 km (~786 km WLTP), 840 km (~680 km WLTP), and 800 km (~648 km WLTP). A plug-in hybrid version is also planned for the future, which is expected to offer a pure electric CLTC range of 435 km (~352 km WLTP).
