Chery’s Luxeed to launch six NEV models globally

Chery’s premium brand Luxeed plans to launch six NEV models globally. The list of new vehicles includes the LLounge large minivan, the Stormax sporty SUV, and four crossovers. They will form three product lines, offering three powertrain variants.

Luxeed was launched in 2023 as a joint project between Chery and Huawei. Its current domestic model line includes the S7 sedan, the R7 crossover coupe, the V9 minivan, and the RX SUV. In late October, Luxeed officially revealed plans to go global. It will initially introduce two models outside China: the V9 minivan and the RX SUV. Their global names are LLounge and Stormax, respectively. One of the first countries to get these two Chery-made cars is Australia.

According to a slide from the Luxeed presentation recently shared online, Chery’s brand plans to develop three model lines globally. The Stormax and the LLounge represent their own lines. Meanwhile, Luxeed will also launch the SUV series that includes four models tentatively named 3, 5, 7, and 9. They will be positioned as more luxurious products than the driving-focused Stormax.

Interestingly, the Luxeed’s domestic model line doesn’t comprise the mentioned cars. This means Chery will develop those four models specifically for the global markets. They will be available for purchase with three powertrain options, most likely BEV, PHEV, and EREV. More information about the upcoming cars will be disclosed next year.

Luxeed Stormax

Speaking about vehicles that have already reached the Chinese market, the Luxeed Stormax (RX) is a large five-seat SUV designed by Werner Gruber. Priced between 259,800 and 389,800 yuan (38,900 – 58,370 USD) domestically, the Luxeed RX offers dimensions of 5020/2007/1585 mm. The wheelbase reaches 3,000 mm. The Luxeed RX adopts 20- or 22-inch wheels with a staggered tire setup (255 mm at the front and 275 mm at the rear). Its taillight unit adopts 10,000 randomly arranged crystal-like elements.

The Luxeed Stormax is equipped with 98 sensors and 27 air bladders in the front seats. The seat adjusts its support structure in real-time based on driving conditions and the occupant’s posture, and includes an active side-bolster function. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 622 liters plus 30 liters of hidden storage space, and supports a “Knock Knock” hands-free opening function.

A single electric motor powers the entry-level Luxeed Stormax for the domestic market. It sits in the rear axle, boasting an output of 277 kW (371 hp). The dual-motor AWD variant offers a peak power of 437 kW (586 hp). Three battery options are available for 81.1 kWh, 100.25 kWh, and 100.42 kWh, suitable for 700 – 852 km of CLTC range (574 – 699 km WLTP).

Luxeed LLounge

The Luxeed LLounge (V9) is a sizeable minivan with dimensions of 5359/2009/1879 mm and a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. It adopts seven seats with a 2+2+3 layout. The second-row seats of the LLounge adopt helmet airbags. Other features include 25 speakers, an 896-line LiDAR sensor, dual-chamber air suspension, and rear-wheel steering. The exterior styling of the LLounge was adjusted.

The Luxeed LLounge comes standard with an EREV powertrain. It adopts a 1.5-liter 115 kW (154 hp) range extender that sends power to a 53.4 kWh ternary NMC battery. It is suitable for 285 – 305 km of CLTC range (234 – 250 km WLTP). The RWD variant of the LLounge has an e-motor with 227 kW (304 hp). The dual-motor AWD version adopts two motors with a peak power output of 382 kW (512 hp). The domestic price of the LLounge lies between 389,800 and 519,800 yuan (58,370 – 77,840 USD).
