GWM’s 5.4-meter Tank 700 surfaces with 6 seats to challenge Yangwang U8L
A new regulatory filing published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed the Tank 700 Long-Wheelbase Edition (LWB) from Great Wall Motor. Measuring 5,445 mm in length with a 3,150 mm wheelbase, the six-seat variant expands the Tank 700 beyond the standard model’s five-seat configuration. The filing documents two powertrain setups: a 2.0T Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid with a 59.05 kWh battery and a 3.0T V6 variant. The LWB version is also certified for a braked towing capacity of 2,500 kg.
The Tank 700 LWB falls into the same broad physical size and seating class previously targeted by GWM’s Tank 800 project. GWM first previewed the Tank 800 as a luxury flagship concept at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. It was spotted during a road test in July 2024. Prototype sightings and company updates for that standalone model faded after mid-2024. The long-wheelbase Tank 700 brings three-row seating and a 5.45-meter body to GWM’s lineup.
Stretched Footprint and 2+2+2 Cabin
When GWM launched the standard 2026 Tank 700 Hi4-T, the SUV offered a two-row, five-seat layout. The Long-Wheelbase Edition adds 340 mm to its length, 65 mm to its width and 36 mm to its height, while the wheelbase grows by 150 mm. It adopts a 2+2+2 configuration with second-row captain’s chairs:

The LWB’s curb weight ranges from 3,396 to 3,480 kg. Combined with its 2,500 kg braked towing rating, the figures place the extended Tank 700 among the heavier full-size SUVs in its class.
Exterior styling retains the model’s angular wheel arches, squared-off shoulders and upright greenhouse. MIIT images show a side-hinged rear cargo door, enclosed spare wheel carrier, rear diffuser trim and a roof spoiler housing driver-assistance cameras. The filing lists 20-inch and 22-inch wheel options.
2.0T Hi4-Z and 3.0T V6 Powertrains
The MIIT catalogue lists two powertrain configurations for the long-wheelbase variant:

2.0T Hi4-Z Plug-in Hybrid: Uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 185 kW (248 hp) and 385 N·m of torque, paired with GWM’s dual-motor longitudinal Hi4-Z hybrid system. It incorporates a 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery pack from Svolt and has a pure-electric range of 190 km under the WLTC test cycle. MIIT images show this version with black exterior trim, including darkened window surrounds and badging.

3.0T V6: Uses a 3.0L twin-turbo V6, 265 kW (355 hp). The MIIT options sheet lists an optional rear “GF” emblem on the lower right of the tailgate. Battery capacity and electric range are not disclosed in the initial filing. Bronze exterior accents are also shown.
The same MIIT batch also includes a standard-wheelbase Tank 700 with the 3.0T V6 and optional “GF” badging. That version retains the 3,000 mm wheelbase and five-seat configuration, showing that the GF designation is not limited to the LWB body. GWM has not publicly established GF as a separate Tank 700 trim hierarchy.
Tank 700 Sales Context
According to China EV DataTracker, the standard Tank 700 Hi4-T recorded 2,003 domestic retail deliveries in July 2026, down from 2,515 in June and 2,628 in May. Monthly volume had risen from 1,602 units in April to 2,628 in May before easing in June and July.
The Tank 700 LWB also moves into territory occupied by the BYD Yangwang U8L, which measures 5,400 mm long, has a 3,250 mm wheelbase, and uses a six-seat layout. The U8L has a curb weight of about 3,595 kg, making the Tank 700 LWB slightly longer, similarly heavy, and an immediate three-row competitor in China’s ultra-large off-road segment.
Great Wall Motor has not announced retail pricing or a showroom release date for the Tank 700 LWB.
