2027 BMW Car Lineup Updates: 3 Series and i3 are the Start of a New Era
Few could accuse BMW of having a stale lineup. The automaker has made continual improvements to its vehicles’ design, tech, and features over the years. But 2027 marks a major milestone as the first vehicles built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture arrive.
Neue Klasse will underpin many of BMW’s next-generation models, so what’s seen in the new 3 Series and i3 is a preview of what’s to come. Learn about those and every other 2027 BMW car here.
2027 BMW 2 Series
The smallest BMW coupe is expected to carry over mostly unchanged for 2027. However, the sporty M2 version gets a substantial update: Instead of being rear-drive only, as before, xDrive all-wheel drive becomes available. That promises better traction and grip, but it also has a rear-drive drift mode for tail-out antics.

2027 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe
No significant changes are expected this year for the 2 Series’ four-door counterpart. The 2 Series Gran Coupe received a major update for 2025, when it got new exterior design details, a remodeled interior, upgraded powertrains, and additional luxury features.

2027 BMW 3 Series
It’s a big deal when a new 3 Series arrives, and that’s happening for 2027. The iconic sport sedan enters its G50 generation with revised hardware, revolutionary design, and a modernized interior.
BMW reworked the chassis to sharpen handling while preserving everyday comfort. Familiar turbocharged I-4 and I-6 engines return, the latter with more power. Inside, the 3 Series gets BMW’s latest digital interface with a parallelogram touchscreen, AI assistant, and minimal physical controls.
The 3 Series launches alongside the i3, which is essentially an all-electric version of the car.

2027 BMW i3
BMW has an i3 again, but the one arriving for 2027 is very different than the original tiny, electrified hatchback. The new i3 is a sporty luxury sedan, in essence an all-electric version of the 3 Series. The two are very similar; design differences are subtle, and features are almost identical.
What powers the i3 is the main difference. Instead of turbocharged engines, it has a single or dual electric motors. Charging is ultra-fast, and range is projected at well over 400 miles.
The i3 looks a lot like the 3 Series, but electric power should make it drive quite differently. An all-electric M3 based on the i3 is set to arrive soon.

2027 BMW 4 Series
The only thing that changes on the 2027 4 Series coupe, Gran Coupe, and convertible is the addition of an optional built-in dashcam. When equipped with an automatic transmission, the M4 gets standard remote engine start.
Following up the new 2027 3 Series, a full 4 Series redesign on the Neue Klasse platform is expected to debut in the next year or two.

2027 BMW i4
BMW applied notable changes to the all-electric version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe for 2026, so no updates are expected for 2027. Last year, the i4 gained upgraded powertrain hardware that improved efficiency, extending driving range to over 300 miles in the eDrive40 version.
The sporty M50 model gained a significant power increase and was rebadged to M60. A tire repair kit became standard on all i4 models. Black exterior trim, glass interior controls, and a built-in dashcam joined the options list.

2027 BMW 5 Series
No updates are made to the standard 5 Series for 2027. Last year, plug-in hybrid models including the M5 were upgraded for faster Level 2 charging. New paint, trim, and upholstery choices were also added. A midcycle refresh reflecting Neue Klasse design touches and tech features could arrive for 2028.

2027 BMW 7 Series
BMW’s flagship sedan receives a substantial midcycle refresh for 2027, with updated styling, a more technology-focused cabin, and luxurious refinements.
Exterior revisions give the 7 Series a cleaner appearance, though it’s still huge and eye-catching. The interior adopts BMW’s latest digital interface, as seen in the 3 Series, and adds another dashboard display for passengers. The odd vertical-spoke steering wheel is sure to divide opinions.
Gas engines gain a modest power increase, and a plug-in hybrid returns. Updated electronics, voice controls, and convenience features accompany the redesign, while the driving experience remains centered on a balance of comfort and performance.

2026 BMW 8 Series
The swoopy 8 Series isn’t part of BMW’s 2027 lineup. Following discontinuation of the powerful M8 after 2025, the 8 Series coupe, convertible, and four-door Gran Coupe ceased production after 2026. The 8 Series’ spot in BMW’s range could be filled by a forthcoming ultra-luxury model under the reimagined Alpina brand.

2026 BMW Z4
Production of the BMW Z4 ended in 2026. This compact convertible had a good run that peaked with the sporty Handschalter manual transmission version and concluded with a matte black Final Edition. If or when the Z4-or a successor-will return to BMW’s lineup is unclear.
