Freelander 8 interior goes beyond 46-inch display with Snapdragon 8397 ahead of August launch
Chery-JLR’s Freelander 8 has received its most detailed interior preview yet, with Chinese automotive outlet Autohome revealing new information on the SUV’s computing hardware, cabin storage, audio system and third-row packaging ahead of its expected August launch. This follows the model’s ongoing 30-city dealership roadshow across China, and expands on the interior details released earlier this month.
The latest walkthrough focuses on the newly disclosed engineering and security features inside the cabin.
Snapdragon 8397 claims and cockpit hardware
The Freelander 8’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive processor is reported to deliver three times the CPU performance and a 12-fold increase in NPU performance compared with the Snapdragon 8295 benchmark. The SUV also adopts Huawei Qiankun ADS-assisted driving technology, previously disclosed as part of its intelligent vehicle hardware package.
Building on the 46.3-inch panoramic glass display and 17.3-inch rear ceiling display, the Freelander 8’s cockpit includes dual optical crystal rotary knobs.
The cabin also features open-pore real wood trim, recycled aluminium for interior and Nappa leather upholstery.
Newly disclosed storage features include a 22-litre centre console compartment and a 7.3-litre passcode-protected electric glovebox. The SUV is also equipped with dual 50 W air-cooled wireless charging pads.
Second row adds passenger features
The second-row seating area is referred to by the manufacturer as the “Downton Abbey Living Room” (唐顿庄园会客厅).
The right-side second-row seat reclines up to 145 degrees and includes a four-way electrically adjustable leg rest. Both captain’s chairs are reported to feature heating, ventilation and 16-point massage, along with folding tray tables, USB Type-C ports supporting display mirroring, and a 10-litre temperature-controlled compartment operating between -6°C and 50°C.
The cabin also includes a 23-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with a 7.1.4-channel layout, dual-layer acoustic glass and active noise cancellation.
Third row receives closer look
The third row provides 960 mm of headroom beneath a 1.15-meter glass roof section referred to as the “Skylight Corridor.” Heated and ventilated third-row seats are also listed among the cabin features, an equipment item not commonly specified for third-row SUV seating.
Previous regulatory filings show the Freelander 8 measures 5,118 mm long, 2,050 mm wide and 1,898 mm tall, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Earlier coverage also detailed the SUV’s 800 V extended-range electric platform and CATL battery supply.
China EV DataTracker data show Land Rover recorded 3,283 deliveries in China in June, up from 997 in May. The increase coincided with clearance pricing for remaining locally produced Land Rover models before Chery-JLR’s transition to the new Freelander product line. The automaker has said the Freelander 8 is scheduled to launch in August, while final pricing and the complete production specification have yet to be announced.
