Geely’s Smart #2 city car launches in China for 14,900 USD
The new Smart #2 has officially launched in China, bringing the brand’s iconic two-door, two-seater configuration to the pure electric vehicle market. Positioned as a micro-sized electric vehicle, the model is available in a Premium trim for 99,900 yuan (14,900 USD).
As a global model that previously debuted at the Paris Motor Show, the Smart #2 also features a “Couture Edition,” limited to 999 units each for the Chinese and European markets, and has sold out. Built on the ECA electric compact architecture, the vehicle offers a CLTC-rated range of 410 km (~332 km WLTP).
Design and DimensionsDesigned under the leadership of the Mercedes-Benz global design team, the Smart #2 retains the classic “four wheels at the corners” layout. The front fascia features a capsule-style grille, LED projector headlights, and a front bumper with large air intakes and vertical ventilation slots.
The vehicle measures 2,751 mm (2,764 mm including the spoiler) in length, 1,669 mm in width, and 1,555 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,875 mm. It utilises a staggered tyre setup – narrower in the front and wider in the rear – to enhance steering agility, grip, and stability. The rear design is highlighted by irregular circular dual-strip taillights and a split-type tailgate, where the lower section can support a weight of up to 120 kg.
Interior and technologyInside, the “S-Shape” wraparound cockpit features a 12.8-inch floating central touchscreen powered by the Flyme Link system, complemented by an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. The cabin is designed for two, featuring hidden storage and a central armrest. Notable amenities include 256-colour ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel and seats, and a Sennheiser sound system.
The floor is 25 mm lower than the previous-generation fortwo, providing 1,000 mm of headroom and achieving a space utilisation rate of 78%.
Safety and performanceThe smart #2 is equipped with up to seven airbags, including a far-side airbag, and features 16 active and passive safety functions, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP).
Powering the vehicle is a rear-mounted single motor with a maximum output of 60 kW (80 hp). It is paired with a 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL, providing a CLTC range of 410 km (~332 km WLTP). The vehicle supports fast charging, capable of charging from 30% to 80% in approximately 15 minutes, and includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities. With a front MacPherson and rear five-link independent suspension, the smart #2 boasts a minimum turning radius of 3.35 meters.
