Honda Is Building New Parts For the Old Acura NSX

The parts can be ordered through Acura dealerships starting in the summer.

Owners of classic Acura and Honda performance models rejoice: Honda will start officially reproducing and distributing parts for these cars, starting with the first-gen Acura NSX.

Under the newly formed Honda Heritage Works global service, Honda will reproduce and redevelop certain genuine parts that have been discontinued, which addresses one of the major pain points of owning a classic car. The NSX parts can be ordered directly through Acura dealerships starting in the summer, though which parts and how much they’ll cost is still to be decided, according to the announcement. Powertrain, interior, exterior, electrical, and chassis parts are all on the table, however.

Depending on the piece, Honda will either reproduce it in a genuine fashion, using the same materials and methods as it did the first time around, or it will newly redevelop parts that aren’t for sale anymore using modern day technologies, methods, and materials. Either way, it sounds like this could mark the end of trawling eBay and the various support forums in search of at least certain parts. Perhaps dealer installation will be available, but it’s too early to tell.

Honda certainly isn’t the first automaker to launch a heritage parts program. Land Rover has been doing it for more than 10 years. Toyota has a program for the 2000GT, A70 and A80 Supras, and the AE86.

Maybe after the parts become available, NSX owners will drive their cars more since a broken part won’t mean lengthy downtime or long waits. Cars are meant to be driven, after all. It would be great if this helps get them back out on the roads and not just sitting in museums and on concours lawns.
