Smart #1 to drop charging time from 30 to 12 minutes due to 800V system

The updated Smart #1 electric crossover from Geely and Mercedes-Benz will enter China with an 800V high-voltage system and a 10-to-80% charging time of 12 minutes. Its launch is scheduled for August 6.

The Smart #1 was initially launched in China in 2022. This model stands on the Geely-developed modular architecture and is being manufactured in the Middle Kingdom. Mercedes-Benz was responsible only for the Smart #1’s styling. The first version of this model was available with a 400V system. Its battery could charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. Soon, the updated #1 will reach China with an 800V system.

More about the updated Smart #1

The major upgrade of the updated Smart #1 is the 800V high-voltage system. It has a 61.52 kWh battery pack capable of 6C charging. It means the pack can take the DC power six times the capacity. In the new Smart #1’s case, it is 370 kW DC. As a result, this crossover can be charged from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes. The Smart #1’s range reaches 535 km under CLTC conditions.

Another benefit of the Smart #1 is a Geely in-house developed 16-in-1 electric drive with the highest efficiency of 93.8%. This unit integrates 12 hardware and 4 software elements. The high-voltage wiring of this electric drive was reduced by 30%. The overall height of the electric drive is below 325 mm. This electric drive has a peak power output of 245 kW (329 hp). Previously, Geely officials revealed that the Galaxy TT sedan and the Lynk & Co 20 fastback SUV adopt the same e-motor.

One more upgrade of the Smart #1 is the LiDAR-based G-ASD D-Pilot H5 assisted driving system. It comprises 31 sensors and a single Nvidia Oring Y chip with a computing power of 200 TOPS. Thanks to this hardware, the updated Smart #1 supports the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways. The infotainment system of the Smart #1 is powered by a 4nm chip. There is a 15.4-inch screen in the dashboard.

The Smart #1 is a compact crossover with dimensions of 4270/1822/1636 mm. The wheelbase reaches 2,750 mm. It adopts semi-hidden door handles, a floating roof with blackened pillars, a single taillight unit, and a large air intake in the front. As mentioned, the new model will enter China on August 6 to boost the market performance. According to China EV DataTracker, Smart delivered 5,350 units of the #1 from January to June 2026 in China, down 47.6% Year-Over-Year in China.
