The 2027 Ford F-150 Just Got Smarter, Tougher, and More Affordable Off-Road

With archrival Chevrolet teeing up an all-new Silverado for 2027, perennial (49 years!) truck-sales-leader Ford felt compelled to up its ante as well-albeit a comparative penny ante. Here’s what’s new with the 2027 Ford F-150:

Powertrain

The 2.7-liter V-6 base engine is broomed for a related 3.0-liter EcoBoost mill. Like the 2.7, the block is compacted-graphite iron, but the added displacement boosts torque by 10–11 percent in the rev range where daily driving occurs, so the truck doesn’t feel like it’s working as hard. The V-8 engine carries over, and its availability expands to the entire lineup, XL to Platinum (presumably there’s a sizable savings for opting for this 410-lb-ft engine offering instead of the 500-lb-ft EcoBoost V-6). Everything else mostly carries over.

Exterior Design

Front grille and headlamp revisions lead the design changes outside, with the changes aiming for “an enhanced, tougher look” primarily through tweaks to the number and thickness of the grille crossbars. And naturally the wheel designs are considerably changed up.

Broader Off-Road Offerings

Two new packages are aimed at making the F-150’s best off-road hardware more affordable and accessible as lower priced entry level variants of the Tremor and Raptor. The former mounts all the Tremor off-road goodies onto an STX base vehicle (the 2026 Tremor comes with mid- to high-level Lariat equipment). So, you get the plastic steering wheel, manual A/C instead of dual-zone climate control, no heated seats, six plain speakers instead of eight fancy B&O ones, no running boards, and a fixed rear window in place of the slider. These changes slice $5,300 off the price.

The new base Raptor delivers base-Raptor powertrain and suspension gear and broadened bodywork but deletes such creature comforts and non-performance related features as the head-up display, fog lamps, 2kW Pro Power Onboard capability, Mobile Office package, power passenger seat, and under-seat storage, while swapping the power-adjustable steering column for a manual/tilt column and canceling six of the 14 B&O speakers. The changes end up saving about $4,000.

BlueCruise with Towing

Eroding one of the unique selling propositions General Motors Super Cruise has been lording over Ford, the hands-off eyes-on BlueCruise system can now tow up to 10,000 pounds. The system includes lane centering, and unlike GM, turn-signal-initiated automatic lane changes as well. But the maximum speed it can be set at is 75 mph-10 mph lower than Super Cruise permits. The Ford system will also lower that maximum if windy conditions or other trailer-sway inducing factors are detected.

One big Super Cruise advantage is a broader operating domain-600,000-plus miles of mapped roadways across the U.S. and Canada, versus Ford’s Blue Zone of just 130,000 miles. According to BlueCruise core development manager Kevin Wegienka, Ford has focused on maximizing the safety, features, and quality of its Level 2 hands-free system, perhaps at some expense to the quantity of road miles on which it can be used. When asked whether the company is actively out mapping more roads, he noted that BlueCruise does not rely on the sort of high-definition maps that “ground-truth” recording vehicles help generate for others.

The First F-150 Carhartt Edition

Maybe the biggest news is the expansion of Ford’s longstanding Carhartt

partnership (which started with factory-worker overalls in the 1920s) from

the Super Duty trucks to the F-150. Based on the XLT Crew Cab, the exterior gets a

unique grille, Lobo headlamps, a Tremor hood, unique 20-inch wheels and fender vents, subtle graphics across the lower tailgate and down the body side, and a

spray-in bedliner with a Carhartt wordmark on the front wall of the bed. Seven exterior colors are available, all of which coordinate well with the signature

interior colors.

New seat covers in the canvas-like material and colors used on Carhartt jackets coordinate with Carhartt triple-stitching across the door panels, seats, and map pockets. Finally, the all-weather floor mats feature the same texture found in the bottom of a Carhartt tool bag. The Carhartt package adds $4,195 to the XLT price, for a total base price of $65,455. The 2027 Ford F-150 Carhartt is available for order starting today, and will be available in early 2027.
