Freelander 8 hits 10,000 pre-orders in 48 hours, starts at 50,400 USD

The Freelander 8 received more than 10,000 pre-orders within 48 hours of opening pre-sales on August 14, according to Chery Jaguar Land Rover (Chery-JLR). The EREV starts at 339,900 yuan (about 50,400 USD) for the five-seat version, with six-seat variants starting from 349,900 yuan (about 51,900 USD). The disclosed figure refers to pre-sale reservations and does not represent completed vehicle deliveries.

Freelander operates as an independent brand under the Chery-JLR joint venture, while the Freelander 8 carries no Land Rover exterior badging. Pre-sales began on August 14.

800V EREV powertrain

The powertrain combines a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender with dual electric motors. Chery-JLR lists total system output at 610 kW (818 hp) and 813 N·m, with a two-speed 250 kW rear motor.

A 60.3 kWh CATL Freevoy battery provides a claimed 310 km of CLTC electric range. Chery-JLR lists a 20%–80% charging time of 12 minutes and a 6C charging rate.

The chassis uses dual-chamber air suspension with CCD damping, a front mechanical differential lock and rear-wheel steering with up to 10 degrees of steering angle. The SUV measures 5,118 mm long, 2,050 mm wide and 1,898 mm tall, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Its length reaches 5,185 mm with the power-operated tow hook deployed.

Chery-JLR claims 45.79% thermal efficiency for the 1.5T range extender and a generation rate of 3.7 kWh of electricity per litre of 92-octane gasoline. These figures are manufacturer claims and the supplied evidence does not independently test them.

Snapdragon 8397 and Huawei ADS 5

The cockpit uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8397 processor in a horizontal dashboard layout that retains physical buttons beneath a 15.6-inch Mini LED central display, complemented by a 17.3-inch rear ceiling-mounted screen.

Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 is listed as standard across the range. The available information does not independently establish the system’s real-world performance or confirm its sensor configuration.

The Freelander 8 is available with five or six seats, with the six-seat configuration using a 2+2+2 layout. Listed cabin equipment includes second-row heated zero-gravity seats with leg rests, detachable Harman Kardon headrest speakers and 11 charging points.

Production began in July

The Freelander 8 rolled off the production line at Chery-JLR’s Changshu plant in Jiangsu on July 30.

The pre-order figure comes alongside a longer-term sales target for Freelander, which has set an ambition of 300,000 annual global sales within three to five years. The 300,000-unit figure is a strategic target, not an achieved sales result.
