2026 Porsche Cayenne S Electric First Look: Less Nuts, Still Nuts
The Cayenne S provides improved performance while leaving room for a GTS model.
The battery-powered Porsche Cayenne Electric SUV is on its way, which means it’s time to cue the inevitable proliferation of models. Porsche has already announced the 435-hp basic Cayenne Electric and the bonkerballs 1,139-hp (!) Cayenne Turbo Electric, and today the company has revealed a new variant that's not only saner but also crazier. Meet the 536-and-sometimes-657-hp middle child, the Cayenne S Electric.
Let’s explain that horsepower thing. The nominal rating is 536 horsepower, but if you engage Launch mode, the Cayenne S will deliver 657 ponies for a claimed 0–60 time of 3.6 seconds. (The company’s estimates are usually conservative; we’ll likely see a quicker number when we test it.) Launch mode is standard, and if you opt for the Sport Chrono package, you get a push-to-pass mode that serves that extra 121 horses in 10-second bursts. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.
Much of the high-capacity hardware from the Cayenne Turbo’s rear motor carries over to the Cayenne S. This includes an inverter with silicon-carbide semiconductors, which can handle loads of up to 620 amps. The aft motor uses the oil cooling system developed for the GT4 e-Performance racer, in which oil flows directly along the stator’s copper windings. Typical motor cooling systems use a water jacket; having oil contact the components directly is more compact and efficient, wasting less energy as heat.
The S will share its 113-kWh battery pack with other Cayenne Electric models. What Porsche hasn’t told is what effect the extra power will have on range—matter of fact, as we write this, Porsche hasn’t announced a range figure for any of the electric Cayennes. The company is crowing about the fast-charging capability, though. All Cayenne Electric models can charge through their Tesla-style NACS port at up to 400 kW, juicing the battery from 10 to 80 percent, Porsche says, in less than 16 minutes. AC charging—the kind you'd do using a typical household outlet—is done through a J1772 port on the other side of the car at 9.6 kW.
Styling-wise, the Cayenne S looks a lot like a Cayenne Electric with an “S” on it. The 20-inch wheels are unique, as are a couple of pieces on the fascia painted in Volcano Grey Metallic and bits of the diffuser done up in body colors.
Speaking of style, along with the new S model, Porsche also announced a new interior décor package from a series that Porsche calls “Director’s Cuts.” It features two-tone leather in black and green, with green accents and stitching, all intended to complement the Mystic Green Metallic paint. The package will be available on all Porsche Cayenne Electric models through the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur lineup.
The Cayenne S is priced at $128,650, which is closer to the base model than the Cayenne Turbo Electric, leaving a gap that would seem to accommodate a future GTS model. Options include Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, the advanced Porsche Active Ride suspension, a Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake System (distinguished by yellow-painted brake calipers), and the Sport Chrono package. Orders for the Cayenne S Electric are open now, with vehicles expected to arrive at Porsche dealerships this summer.
