Xiaomi’s SkyNomad N90 SUV features the 2+2+3 seats layout first seen in BYD’s Great Tang

Xiaomi is gearing up for the official launch of its latest SUV, the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90, scheduled for late July. Following its recent filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the company unveiled the interior layout of this vehicle.

A 2-2-3 Layout

While the current trend among high-end, family-oriented large SUVs heavily favours a 2-2-2 six-seat configuration, Xiaomi is introducing the SkyNomad N90 with a 2-2-3 seven-seat layout.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is highlighting the practical versatility of the seven-seat configuration. He noted that it perfectly accommodates a family of three travelling with both sets of grandparents, or a two-child family accompanied by grandparents and a nanny. Furthermore, Lei Jun emphasised that the 2-2-3 layout, famously utilised in vehicles like the Buick GL8, makes the SkyNomad N90 equally adept at business reception, offering greater utility across diverse usage scenarios.

“Living Space” concept

Positioned as an “intelligent variable large-space SUV,” the SkyNomad N90 is built around the “Living Space” cabin philosophy.

The vehicle has the following dimensions:

• Length: 5,285 mm

• Width: 1,998 mm

• Height: 1,825 mm

• Wheelbase: 3,080 mm

The exterior features Xiaomi’s “Mi”-shaped LED light clusters integrated into the front grille, forming a unified panel embedded with the “SkyNomad” logo. The roof is equipped with LiDAR to support advanced intelligent driving capabilities.

Interior

The SkyNomad N90 offers both 5-seat and 7-seat versions. The vehicle features a completely flat floor and ultra-long rails running the length of the cabin.

Key interior highlights include:

• Front seats: Support 180° rotation.

• Second row: Equipped with standard zero-gravity comfort seats.

• Entertainment: Features a ceiling-mounted screen that can slide forward and backwards, an optional PAD expansion for the third row, and an available projection kit.

Performance and Range

The SkyNomad N90 is powered by a 1.5T range-extender system. The range extender delivers a maximum power of 112 kW, while the drive motors provide a peak power of 210 kW (282 hp) and 100 kW (134 hp). The vehicle reaches a top speed of 190 km/h and is equipped with a 76 kWh battery, offering a WLTC pure electric range of 363–370 km.

The Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 isn’t the first SUV to feature a 2+2+3 layout. Not long ago, BYD launched the Great Tang (or Da Tang) as China’s first SUV with this configuration. However, Lei Jun clearly prefers to draw comparisons with the Buick GL8 MPV (where such seating arrangements are common) rather than mention BYD Great Tang, a formidable rival in the new energy vehicle sector.
